Sage Kapila "The founder of Shamkhya Shastra"

According to Vedic literature sources, Vedic sage Kapila was the founder of the Samkhya school of Sanatana philosophy . He is also considered as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the preserver god in Hinduism. He is credited with authoring the influential Samkhya-sutra, which contains aphorisms on the dualistic philosophy of Samkhya.

His academy was known as Kapil Ashram, which is presently located in Rahika block of Madhubani district in Mithila region of Bihar. It was an important part of the Ancient Mithila University. This place is called as Kapileshwar Sthan. He established a Shivling at his Ashram in the devotion of Lord Shiva. This Shivling is known as Kapileshwar Mahadeva.

The Ancient Mithila University was a center of learning and culture in the ancient kingdom of Mithila, which is now part of Bihar and Nepal. It was one of the oldest universities in the world, along with Takshashila, Nalanda, and Vikramashila. It attracted scholars and students from different regions and religions, such as Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism. Some of the famous alumni of this university were AshtavakraYajnavalkya, Janaka, Gargi, and Maitreyi.
